The Sealant, Waterproofing & Restoration Foundation (SWR Foundation) was established in 1999 for the purpose to provide educational scholarships to assist and encourage students in pursuing careers in the sealant, waterproofing and restoration industry.
The SWR Foundation board awarded two scholarships during their board meeting in September. Hear is what one of the recipients had to say about receiving these scholarship.
Jeffrey Breeding - University of Texas San Antonio
1. By receiving this scholarship, will it further your interest in the sealant, waterproofing, and restoration industry?
By receiving this scholarship I feel that it has given me confidence and reassurance that construction is the right field for me. At this point in my education I am learning so much about all the different areas of construction that everything is interesting to me although restoration is something that really interest me. When I see a restoration project taking place it makes me think about the workers who built the building without the technology we have today or if the building could talk, all of the interesting stories it could tell us about the history it’s seen. Preserving and restoring any old structure would be an experience all in itself.
2. Financially, how much is this grant helping you out?
Do you work in addition to school and need the money for your tuition? This grant is helping me out quite a lot, I wanted to go to summer school but wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to but I will be able to with this grant. I have been very fortunate that my parents have been able to pay for my school because without them I wouldn’t be able to afford to go. I do however have a part time job so that I am able to help pay for my living expenses and so I can have a little running around money.
3. At this point, would you consider a job full time in the construction industry?
At this point I would not consider a full time job. I would only be able to handle a part time job because I am trying to finish my education so I can go into the field and work. With a full time job I would have to take time off of school prolonging my career in the construction industry.
4. Is there anything that the scholarship has helped you to do that without it you wouldn’t have been able to?
This scholarship is giving me the opportunity to go to summer school with the savings my parents will have in the spring semester, without it I don’t think I would be able to go because of the extra cost of summer school.
